Colour Story: Ella’s Mauve Bedroom

Jonathan and Allison’s home in Toronto’s Bloor West Village is tasteful and well appointed but it’s little Ella’s bedroom that draws the “Wows”. Boldly painted in “Flirty” from the Debbie Travis Paint Collection, the room turned out a little punchier than Allison imagined but the soft green accents and white painted furniture help keep the mauve in check.

Jonathan and his dad designed and constructed the window-framing built-ins with a fantastic combination of storage and display space. The green baskets on top push the storage potential all the way to the ceiling and help to visually expand the small room.

“February Eight,” spelled out in wood block letters above the change table, is Ella’s birthday. The linens, rug and fanciful mobile are from Pottery Barn and the crib is from Macklem’s in Toronto.

Jonathan and Allison have purchased a new, larger home not too far away and they intend to recreate Ella’s current bedroom once they settle in. All the wows they’ve received for their vivid colour choices—the hallway outside Ella’s room is apple green and the kitchen is chocolate brown and white–have inspired the couple to take a few more decorating risks.

“We used to be pretty beige,” admits Jonathan, “but that doesn’t seem very satisfying anymore.”
