Canadian Cool: Cocooning With Futé

Nobody does lounge like Futé does lounge. One of my favorite Canadian décor specialists, Futé Design threw itself a cool, casual party last night to celebrate the launch of its new Cocoon line of daybeds and loungers. Designed by Tony Gonsales, the collection more than lives up to Futé’s high standards and exotic aesthetic.

The individual cocoons are spectacular–hooded, wrap-around chaises that demand surrender. The Sampan daybed, below right ($3,995), actually rocks; the enveloping yet airy Spartan daybed (below left, $9,295) and Genie Chair (below centre, $3,820) are covered, tranquil spaces that create a room within room.

The Cocoon designs are also available in outdoor versions; powder-coated metal frames are wrapped in synthetic weaving and outdoor fabric and foam are used for the cushions. The additional expense translates into a 30 per cent higher sticker price.

The Suzy Wong bed, above, ($3,250 for queen size) is a great solution for a loft where a little spatial separation is welcome. Futé is also promoting a new line of tabletop accessories, below, and of course there’s the company’s spectacular, signature lighting.

The Enzo chandelier, below ($895), is another Tony Gonsales design–you’d need a pretty strong interior design to stand up to this much WOW! Like most of Futé’s pieces, the Enzo is hand-woven in Southeast Asia (mostly Thailand and Vietnam) over a metal frame.

Another Futé stand-out is the wave coffee table (below): designed by Kenneth Cobonpue, the table is made of lawaan wood and glass and retails for $975.
