Colour Story: From Drab to Dramatic

These before and after shots of a second floor bathroom are a testament to the transformative power of paint. Done on a tight budget by the homeowners, this mini makeover is easily achievable for even the most amateur of DIYers. By removing the ’60s-era floral wallpaper and painting the upper half of the wall in a rich chocolate brown, the bathroom instantly makes its way into modern times.

The only other big changes were a new mirror and light fixture above the vanity and hanging some whimsical art prints. Small details like painting the built-in soap dishes above the sink and updating the light switches help bring the room together. The homeowners were able to revamp this bathroom with just a little time and effort and without a major investment!

now if they could just spend $40 at Home Depot for a new vanity top, you might have something!

I don’t hate that vanity at all, I think the paint colour they chose does wonders to help make it work.

Wow! This paint colour looks fantastic - especially against the white tile. I’ve recently been humming and hawing over a dark chocolate paint colour for our bedroom - but this pic may have given me the encouragement I’ve needed - along with Chris’ ‘be brave - just go for it’ design approach! Jessica, can you share what paint brand/colour you used?

The paint was Behr from Home Depor. It was colour matched from another paint brand chip but I used the Behr brand so that I could get Kitchen and Bath finish paint (it is washable and more durable). On the can, it reads Deep Base 7853/27852, Colorant Oz 48 96. Not sure if that is enough information for them to recreate the colour but I hope so!
