A Very Pretty Porch

All over Toronto’s West End front porches are being boxed-in and converted from public, outdoor spaces into private, indoor mudrooms. I, for one, think it’s a crying shame because as these welcoming verandas disappear they usually take a house’s original character with them—what’s gained in square footage is lost in curb appeal.

Just look at this pretty porch on Indian Road Crescent; the planters and hanging baskets pull the greenery and colour of the landscaped front garden right up and onto the doorstep. The hue of the perennials was taken into consideration long before they bloomed and is reflected with similar shades of annuals in the container garden above.

This home is obviously lovingly cared for and when it comes time to sell, its owners will reap the rewards of the effort they’ve invested just as their neighbourhood benefits each and every day.
