How disappointing to see that Metropolitan Home has stepped down into the muck of vacuous celebrity worship. The October 2009 issue sports six cover lines and two of them come straight from the Hollywood hype-mill: “Celebrity Tweets” and “Q+A: Sarah Jessica Parker”. Turn inside and you’ll discover that the cover-worthy “interview” with SJP is a three-inch spit-ball about La Parker’s favorite things including her preferences in ice cream, sneakers and sunglasses. The only decor-related bullet reveals that the star’s favorite paint colour is geranium red. Wow!
As for the Tweets, well, how much can anyone say in 140 characters and anyway, what do Britney Spears or Taylor Swift have to do with Met’s modern home mandate?
I understand that cover lines are written to goose newsstand sales but who exactly are the editors trying to attract? If the display copy is this dumbed-down what does it say about the rest of the content? I’m glad we let our subscription lapse if this is the best Donna Warner and her team can come up with.
One of my favorite bloggers, Raina from If the Lamshade Fits, provides her own wicked assessment of the October issue on her site.

I like SJP and geranium red both, but yeah, I’m not sure what any of that has to do with Met Home. I think you and Raina are both spot on in your assessment.

Is it just me, or do those pillows look like those round licorice candies?
