I may have to be more careful about what I coo over, here on styleNorth. Remember those brass side tables I was coveting at Elliott & Ward? Well, I got back from the Home Show last weekend to discover them ensconced in our living room, a very sweet surprise from Mike.
And while I LOVE the tables and am happy to see them in our living room, I’d actually moved on mentally and was chasing another table to compliment the black tripod lamp I am so desperate to make work in the space. I’d admired the table, below right, several times at Philz on Queen Street East, but until the tripod came into our lives, I couldn’t justify the purchase. Naturally, when I went back for it, the Philz table was gone.
So the decision has been made for me: I’ll sell our vintage, chrome Nienkamper tables, below left, on Craigslist and recover some of the cost of the new brass ones. Fortunately, Mike was able to negotiate a discount on the E&W tables so in the end they won’t have cost too much.
Thanks Mike! They’re really gorgeous, even if they’re too big for the tripod lamp. I’ve finally accepted that as much as I love it, that too is headed for Craigslist.

I’m loving the black and white hide chair and ottoman! Is that a diy piece?

Karen, Mike’s upholstery ambitions were still nascent when we dreamed these up. The chair was a slightly-damaged Pottery Barn floor model that was discounted 60 per cent and the hide came from Tandy. We had Princess Perfect put it all together for us at a cost of about $600, which included the chair, ottoman and bolster. It’s certainly a focal point in the room.

Hold On! Maybe we can make a deal on those tables.

Greg, I bought the tables at Nienkamper’s annual sale in the early 90s; they were $800 tables on sale for 50 per cent off. I’m hoping to get $250 for the pair on Craigslist. They’re yours if you want them.

Chris, if not already sold — I would be happy to purchase those chrome tables!!!

What a sweet guy, is your man! (”your” used in the non-possessive)
I actually love the combination of the new tables and the brass lamp in that vignette. It’s knock-out.

Message to Chris: You’re one lucky man! Message to Mike: Will you marry me?
Re: your tripod, I wonder if the chair beside it might be part of the dilemma? With its delicate frame, the proportions of which are very similar to the lamp stand, almost any table could create a bit of a balance issue. Perhaps trying the lamp next to a chair whose proportions provide a bit of a counterweight to it would make it easier to add a table to the equation. Just a thought…might be worth a try.

Lin, LOL! Not only is he sweet, he cooks, too!
You make a good point about the chair but in truth this is just a vignette I pulled together to show the lamp.
Hogtown Mike, Greg is trying to set up a time to come see them but they’re yours if he takes a pass.

RenoGrrl,
The deal was done last night and styleNorth reader Matt is the new owner of our old tables. He seemed delighted with his purchase and his contribution cut the cost of our new tables in half.
And they all lived happily ever after.
