If you’re in Toronto and are free this evening, OCAD is screening Koolhaas HouseLife, a documentary by filmmakers Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine about the House in Bordeaux, “a masterpiece of contemporary architecture,” designed in 1998 by Rem Koolhaas/OMA. The film’s central conceit is to follow the housekeeper and maintenance staff as they conduct their rounds of this remarkable residence on a normal day.
It may be known as the House in Bordeaux but after watching the video trailers on the movie’s website I suggest a better name might be Hydraulic House because of the way the doors, floors, walls and windows, rise and fall and open and close. I highly recommend a quick jump to the movie site to view the clips, which are rather delightful.
Koolhaas HouseLife screens at the OCAD auditorium (100 McCaul Street) tonight (Tuesday, October 27) at 7:30 pm; admission is free. Movie stills courtesy of Koolhaas HouseLife.

Dear Readers,
In addition to eminentcritic I had a message from another reader who missed the screening because she got the email alert too late. My apologies. I will work with my developer to schedule the subscription alerts closer to the actual posting time rather than the end of that day.
Regarding advance notice, I always try to post about future events at least a day or two ahead; word of this film screening reached me very late and since I was strapped for a post yesterday I went ahead with it in spite of the late notice. I’ll try not to spring things on you like this in future. Bad blogger!
