When he purchased his home almost 20 years ago, Robert was confident he could turn the 10’ x 20’ terrace into a serene space that reflects his passion for plants and international travel. Robert has visited all seven continents, including a photographic journey through Antarctica and his sublime refuge hints at his fervour for far-off places.

Just look at this pretty porch on Indian Road Crescent; the planters and hanging baskets pull the greenery and colour of the landscaped front yard right up and onto the doorstep. The hue of the perennials was taken into consideration long before they bloomed and is reflected with similar shades of annuals in the container garden above.

Lorne and Ruth Campbell's garden isn't likely to be featured in Canadian House and Home any time soon and that's just fine with them. Their mismatched menagerie of statuary, which ranges from stone and cast iron animals to Greek Godesses and Japanese pagodas is a local landmark in Toronto's well-to-do Kingsway neighbourhood.

This awesome vintage patio set was on the sidewalk in front of Toronto's Post & Beam (2869 Dundas Street West, 416.913.4243) yesterday so naturally we ducked in to ask some questions. There are actually five chairs in the French Regency-style set, which was cast in the 1930s. Look closely and you'll see that the table — actually a stool — isn't a match; it's made of aluminum from a different era but it certainly works with the set ($500 for the lot).

From the moment Mike and I laid eyes on Bamboo Bazaar we've been calling it Wicker World. I've never seen so much wicker, rattan, reed and bamboo. Wicker World, I mean Bamboo Bazaar, occupies a big double storefront at 1840 Davenport Road (near Symmington) in Toronto's west end. The business, which was founded more than a century ago by W.H. Kilby, has occupied this location for more than 60 years.
