StyleNorth reader Karen wrote in to share a miraculous bedroom makeover she recently slam-dunked. "I thought you might enjoy seeing it," she wrote, "since you played a small part in it—Moveline Liquidations! As you can see by the before shot our master bedroom wasn't worthy of the name. A couple of weeks ago I headed to Oakville and checked out Moveline Liquidations. What a great place! I had so much fun and you're right, there's no breaking the bank."

Deco, deco, deco. Art deco has to be the most misused term in home decorating. If I had a dollar for every time I saw “art deco” used to describe some piece of junk on Craigslist I’d be able to afford to shop in Wenda Thomson and Gray Abraham’s stupendous Decollect, located in tiny, perfect Port Hope, Ontario, about an hour east of Toronto.

Mike and I cannot drive through Oakville without swinging into Moveline Liquidations, which we did last week on our way home from Rose-Hill. As usual, there was lots of great stuff at Moveline but it was the plethora of mirrors that really caught my attention.

I was impressed with Karen Johnston’s luxe, mosaicworks mirrors the first time I saw them at Toronto’s Elliott & Ward. Her glorious, hand-crafted pieces are big but never brash thanks to a sophisticated, mostly monochromatic palette. And then I saw her Bling Bling mirror at the Interior Design Show earlier this month. With Bling Bling (36” diameter, $1,750), Karen subversively repurposes hardware store materials like common nuts and plumbers chain and transforms them into something truly, stunningly beautiful! Now, I’m an unabashed fan.

Indian textiles are not for the faint of heart. If neutral is your mantra you’d do well to avoid Toronto's Little India, where colours are bold, bright and saturated.
